HARTSVILLE, SC, November 02, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the world’s largest diversified packaging companies, today announced that Marcy Thompson, vice president, Marketing and Innovation of the Company, intends to retire at the end of 2021. In addition, the Company announced the appointments of Ernest Haynes as Vice President, Rigid Paper Containers, North America, and Russell Grissett as Vice-President, Global Flexible Packaging, effective November 1, 2021. Haynes and Grissett were both elected corporate officers by the Board of Directors of the Company.

Thompson has led Sonoco’s marketing efforts since 2013. She joined the company in 2006 and became Division Vice President and General Manager of Tubes and Cores, US and Canada, and later Sonoco Recycling. She was elected CEO in 2011 and became Vice President, Rigid Paper Containers, North America. Thompson graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy and earned a Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification.

He joined the Company in 1997.

Grissett was previously Division Vice President and General Manager of Global Flexibles. Prior to that, he was Division Vice President and General Manager, Protection Solutions. During his 28 years at Sonoco, he has demonstrated strong business and operational leadership in the company’s consumer packaging and protection solutions business. Grissett began his career in the consumer sector at Sonoco and held several leadership roles in sales, marketing and operations. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Auburn University. Grissett sits on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Flexibles Packaging Association. He joined the Company in 1993.

Haynes and Grissett both report to Jeff Tomaszewski, vice president, rigid paper containers for consumers in North America and globally.
